Heavy Menstrual Cycles and Ablations

How you can get back to life without worrying about heavy periods.

Heavy Menstrual Cycles and Ablations. If you find yourself having to deal with heavy menstrual cycles month after month, it’s important to know you have options. You may have heard of a procedure called endometrial ablation. Ablation is for women who are finished with childbearing, but suffer from heavy periods, spotting between periods, or periods that last more than the average length of time.

Endometrial ablation is the cauterizing of the endometrial lining which makes it non-responsive to hormonal stimulation. In most cases, women cease to have periods after this procedure, or it reduces to a much lighter flow. This outpatient procedure is typically done in an operating room under light anesthesia. In fact, the procedure itself takes only a few minutes. Most women are able to return to their normal routines the next day following the procedure.

While all procedures carry risk, endometrial ablation is relatively low risk with no incisions. If you find that your periods are getting in the way of life, consider talking with one of our OB/GYN providers about endometrial ablation or various treatment options. This simple procedure can get you back to living your life without heavy periods.
